A Game of (Falling) Dominoes

That pretty much sums up how the work behind this post seemed like to me and it all started here.

We bought this bread box for our apartment in Brooklyn with it's hole in the wall kitchen.  It worked well there and in the apartment we had before we moved into our house.  Here it was just a big space hog and it took me almost 3 years to come to terms with that and another 5 months to do something about it.  Let the dominoes fall.

I knew I wanted to move the bread into the drawer under the stove, but before I could do that I had to move part of what was in there. Of course I neglected to take a before shot, but it wasn't that exciting. Just picture vitamins and ibuprofen where the bread is now.

Keep them falling.

Said vitamins moved here and the baking condiments that were in this spot moved to the cabinet with the spices.

There they are on the top shelf.  Luckily the spot was empty and nothing had to be moved someplace else. Which brings me back to the spot where the bread box use to be.

We have already come to appreciate the extra square inches of counter space. Plus, I finally got hang up my utensil rod.  Game over (for now).

    1. Yes! I can't believe I didn't do this the day we moved in.

  2. Ok, that looks great! I have two questions:
    1) where did you get that little white container for your vitamins? I need something about that size in our kitchen cabinets and I like the clean look of that container.

    2) Storing fresh brötchen: Is there any good way to do this? I put them in a ziplock bag, but they go chewy almost immediately. Of course leaving them in the bakery bags mean they're bricks the next day. Is there a trick I don't know??

    1. Thanks! I got the little container at IKEA in there kitchen department. I tried finding on there website, but no luck. I think it is a brand new product and they had lots of them at our store.
I just ordered a special bread/broetchen bag this week that is suppose to help with both these problems (www.waschbaer.de). I will let you know how they are.

  4. Love your sleek & modern kitchen. And good for you for sticking with the project...often when those "dominoes" start to line up like that, I just walk away and put if off for some other day.

    1. Oh, I wanted to walk (far far away). Honestly though, I just desperately wanted to get a post up on my poor neglected blog. Pressure works! :)

  5. Looks great! And nice job on utilizing your space better. I'm always afraid to put out my cooking utensils since I fear they'll get too dirty and covered in Newfie fur :)

    1. Thanks! I use all of these utensils quite frequently, so they never get dirty from just hanging there. Anything less used is banned to a drawer.

  6. One thing always seems to lead to another! I have the same spice jars from Ikea and I love the idea of writing directly on the glass to label them! We have sticker labels that aren't very sticky--now I know what I'll do when they fall off!
