I am almost there or at least I feel a lot closer to being done than I did last week. Which is funny because there is less than one (working) hour between the two. In the previous weeks I spent hours sifting through Lego, Playmobil and the like and I felt nothing but overwhelmed and under accomplished. This week I moved some furniture around and I finally feel like I am getting somewhere.
This is pretty much how this side of Sam's room has looked since last August. When Sam started school I got it in my head that he needed a desk and chair to do his homework (he does it at the dining table). We bought everything, got it home, put it together and just kind of stuck it on this wall, which had previously had looked like this. The EXPEDIT moved over to the wall on the left and it all ended up looking kind of indifferent, or better said "Meh."
The circles are off of the wall and the EXPEDIT is back. Now all you have to do is imagine a world map above the desk. It was hanging yesterday, but it fell down overnight. That is what I get for keeping it rolled up for the past year and a half. I plan on getting a chair or bean bag to put on the now empty wall. Sam loves it and is not missing any of the things I purged over the past weeks. I plan on doing another quick purge in the next weeks and there a still some things I need to hang, but I am almost there.

Looks like a cool spot for a little guy. The stool is fun!
ReplyDeleteBtw- I saw some fun bean bag things on sale over on the Depot site the other day!
Thanks and I will have to check out the bean bags at Depot.
DeleteLooks great, I like how you changed out the shelves so they stand up...what an improvement just doing that made! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks, I just can't believe I didn't do it sooner.
DeleteThe after looks great! Sometimes it's the small changes that make the biggest impact. I keep seeing those EXPEDIT shelves around the blog and Pinterest world, and I'm wondering where I could use a set as I really like the look of them. Are they sturdy?
ReplyDeleteThanks. We bought the shelf about six years ago for Sam's room and it has proved to be very sturdy. A few dings and some water marks, but structurally completely sound. We also have a four cubby version on which we keep an aquarium so...
DeleteI looks so amazing, like it belongs in a magazine!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Deletenroll the map somehere you wont step on it and stack some books at the corners for a fe hours--preferably a fe days if you can! It is looking good, though. Glad your boy is happy--that's what counts.
ReplyDeleteOh, the books are already stacked and I have feeling it is going to take at least a few days. Sam is really excited and shows it off to everyone.
DeleteLove how the red bins play off the red in the stool.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted something a little more neutral for the stool upholstery, but the other choices were an ugly green or blue. The red does match exactly though.
DeleteI really like it--so clean and modern. I'm still working on getting my 3rd grader to do his homework at the desk in his room. He would have to clear the surface of all his Legos and origami figures in progress first!
ReplyDeleteI will see how long it will take for Sam to cover the surface. :)
DeleteThe room looks great! I agree with all the clean and modern sentiments. {Is that globe a lamp? I love it.}
ReplyDeleteThanks. I wish it was a globe lamp. It is the most annoying thing that talks and can be updated on the web.
DeleteIt has an air of sophistication for a growing young man.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in his room earlier I was thinking, "My little boy is growing up." Getting misty eyed...
